ExSTARS is a component of the Excise Files Information Retrieval System (ExFIRS). ExFIRS provides an automated means for gathering and analyzing motor fuel industry records to determine which activities are not remitting correct federal and state motor fuel excise tax amounts. ExSTARS focuses on the terminal distribution level and processes data reported from several sources including terminal operators and transport carriers. The data reported includes fuel inventory balances and distribution information.
